At this point, they've avoided the idea for so long that it would almost be weird to suddenly start it now. You don’t look that fabulous in uniform with pink and blue hair without landing on the queer spectrum somewhere - it’s just not possible.

Very little romantic tension, jealousy, or even hints of romance appeared throughout the series, especially as it went on.

Instead, the emphasis has always been on their camaraderie, with many episodes focusing on the trio's friendship and putting it to the test. It may be better to keep Team Rocket's found family dynamic and include all three of them, should they appear again.

Team Rocket Just Works Better in Pokémon as a Found Family

Even though Ash’s adversaries have changed more than once throughout the anime to match his ever-growing skills as a Pokémon Trainer, the OG Team Rocket pairing of Jessie and James will always be his best rivals, especially in a manga story where they become so much more than annoying roadblocks for Ash to overcome.

He was renowned for his role as James in Pokémon, appearing in over 700 episodes since 1997 and in at least 15 films. Meowth is at the centre of this, his juxtaposition to Jessie and James’ chemistry helping him stand out and feel like an obtuse puzzle piece all at the same time.

I think their dedication to disguises sits at the centre of this idea of Meowth being such a darling straight boy.

Some people believe James is gay, as he frequently cross dresses in the show, but surely this is just a master of disguise at work? While they could always make an appearance in PokémonHorizons, for now, Jessie and James were left as just friends.

Should Pokémon's Anime Make Jessie x James Canon?

In the final miniseries, known as To Be A PokémonMaster, Jessie and James' relationship didn't see much growth. Over the past few decades the trio have donned hundreds of different outfits, each fit both managing to slay and be contextually relevant to whatever adventure they’re currently embarking upon.

Fans were disappointed that the anime did not give a conclusive resolution to Jessie and James' relationship, leaving them as just friends, but there is debate about whether the anime should introduce a romance between the two. The actors further went on to elaborate that the duo would not work so well together if there were feelings, and that gender played no role in their relationship.

He ran away however, to escape his fiancee Jessebell, as she was determined to "train" him to be a proper gentlemen, even commenting as he fled from her: "You're not running properly!".
