Gaye and Terrell’s final album, “Easy” was released in the fall of 1969. Containing mostly standards and show tunes, the album reached # 42 on Billboard’s Pop Albums chart. But in the year that he turned 29, there was no stopping him.

He had three Billboard soul No. 1s in the space of six months in ‘68, two of them with one of his great duet partners, Tammi Terrell, who would tragically die of a brain tumour at the age of just 24.

The next day they were in Chicago and Tammi was feeling worse. It was then that Marvin realized that she was really ill. She and Marvin were singing “Your Precious Love” when she fell into his arms and was carried off stage. Even though she complained of pains, she insisted to the people close to her that she was well enough to perform.

At the time of her death, she was only 24-years-old. Somebody ordered champagne. Gaye was married to Anna Gordy, Berry Gordy’s sister, at the time and he constantly denied rumors of romance. She blamed most of the label for failing to protect her daugther from David Ruffin during their relationship. Not only can the lovely Motown artist sing and give entertaining impersonations, she can address envelopes.

After giving piano recitals as a kid, singing in school choirs and winning a talent show, she soon found herself a professional singer working for $20 a night at the Medea Club in Philadelphia. Two days later, Tammi Terrell passed away on March 16, 1970 at the age of 24. Marvin canceled the next show and took her back to Philadelphia.

It was then that Marvin realized that she was really ill. The duo performed together on television several times, and were voted the # 1 R&B duo in Cash Box magazine’s Annual Year-End Survey.

While Terrell was finally being established as a star, the migraines and headaches she had suffered from childhood were becoming more constant.

While still undergoing extensive physical therapy, she went back into the recording studio for the first time in two years. (Born 4/29/45)
