A Close look at His Biography
Born William Haislip Squier on May 12, 1950, in Wellesley, Masachussets. Squier advises that if you want to be in this business, you’ve got to learn how to play its dirty game, one that involves letting the industry “stroke” you, or rather turn you into one of their toys.
That certainly didn’t hurt in selling records. He was in other bands before he went solo in 1979.
His first performance was at the Psychedelic Supermarket, a nightclub where he met Eric Clapton(and the band Cream).

“I take songwriting very seriously and I wouldn’t want anything I do to be construed as frivolous or mundane,” the rocker once explained to the Baltimore Sun.
With lines like Put your right hand out / Give a firm handshake, First, you try to bed me / You make my backbone slide, and the chorus’ incessant Stroke me, stroke me, plenty of listeners over the years have gotten hip to a meaning very different from the song’s actual moral.
“Plenty of people saw sexual connotations in [‘The Stroke’] but to me, it was about what goes on in the business world,” Squier added, saying it doesn’t bother him too much.
He Has Not Being Inducted Into The Hall Of Fame
He made a lot of waves in the first half of the 1980s with hit songs and an RIAA gold-certified album-Don’t Say No(1981).
Capitol Records disagreed saying it didn’t matter since the song was already charting. He bought his guitar from a neighbor who sold it to him for $90.
He completed his education at Wellesley High School in 1968 and Berkeley College of Music In 1971.

While homophobia is still a thing today, it was far greater in the 1980’s when absolutely no one ever came out of the closet like Liberace chose not to.
If you were in the entertainment business, being labeled as gay or even rumored as being gay in the 1980s didn’t do wonders for your career. Squier’s girlfriend disagreed and said that the video would ruin him.
He writes screenplays and engages in gardening. Generation X mostly thought the video was a raw depiction of his being gay, especially in a time when the subject of being gay was considered taboo.
Who knows, if this video is to be judged by the Millenials, it may just be another video except for the pink that seems to be much in the video.

There are many things in the books that people don’t agree with, but they all agree that Rock Me Tonite was an awful video that torpedoed Billy Squier’s career as he never came close to achieving his earlier popularity.
